Acrylic, plain glass, electroplated, AB coated and lead crystal are all sold as “crystal suncatcher beads”, and they do not behave alike. I use AB coated — it is the only one of the five whose color changes as the sun moves.
Watch what it does to light
Splits the light, then shifts it.
Refractive index 1.52
Refractive index is how hard the material bends light. Higher bends further, which is what splits white light into color.
Part mirror, part window. As the sun moves, the colors move.
Plain, electroplated and AB coated are the same glass — 1.52 in all three. Only the coating changes.

Aurora borealis coating is a micro-thin layer of metal vapor deposited in a vacuum chamber. It is transflective — part mirror, part window — so light still passes through and still splits, but picks up interference color on the way, the same physics as oil on water. As the sun moves, the colors move.
